A mechanical fault may have led to the death of a teenager at a stock car event at Kaikohe.
Samantha Mouat, 15, of Mount Maunganui, died after her stock car crashed into a wall during an Easter weekend event.
The Circle Track Racing Association says initial findings indicate a mechanical fault may have contributed to the tragedy.
But a spokesperson, Tony Taylor, says it's too early to say conclusively that the problem led to the crash.
He says it must be emphasised driver error was not a factor.
