Businessman's offer to rebuild pool considered

The Christchurch City Council is due to decide on Thursday to allow a local businessman to fund the rebuilding of a swimming pool it controversially demolished.

The council put the land on the market, asking potential buyers to submit proposals for the site.

The St Albans Pavillion and Pool Group has submitted one of the three proposals that are being considered.

It says residents were dismayed when the council demolished, rather than repaired, the 70 year old pool.

The group wants to build a new pool, with a $2.5 million donation from local businessman Martin Coffey.

The council says sale proceeds will go towards expansion of the St Albans Resource Centre.
