Tangimoana to fight clinic closure

6:39 am on 18 March 2010

Residents in the Manawatu town of Tangimoana have vowed to fight plans to cut the hours of the town's local health clinic.

Tangimoana Progressive Society secretary Beth Smith says the health centre has been running for two years, providing a nurse to see patients six days a week.

She says the local primary health organisation abruptly closed the clinic two weeks ago, and has now announced it will re-open, but for just two days a week.

She says it means local people will have to pay to get to to the nearest health provider, almost 40km away, or wait to be ill on a Wednesday or Friday.
