Mayor says Buller will resist cuts to health

Buller District Mayor Pat McManus says moves to reduce health facilities in the district will be resisted.

A report commissioned for the West Coast District Health Board is recommending sweeping changes as the region moves to closer links with the Canterbury DHB.

Mr McManus says the report also recommends redevelopment of Buller hospital, but proposes only one or two extra beds. He says up to 10 are needed.

Mr McManus has formed a working group to discuss the report with the DHB.
