A high school student is in hospital with serious head injuries after being attacked in Christchurch.
Police say a large group of students assaulted the youth near McDonalds in the suburb of Merivale after attending parties around the city.
A 19-year-old man has been charged with assault and will appear in Christchurch District Court this week.
Police say further charges are likely.
