Parents are fighting moves by the Nelson-Marlborough Institute of Technology to close a programme for intellectually disabled people.
The polytech plans to replace a series of part-time courses attended by about 120 students with a new work and life skills programme with places for fewer than half that number.
Jude Sonneland says axing the current part-time courses covering everything from computer and literacy skills to multi-media training would be a massive blow for scores of people with learning disabilities.
She says parents and others are fighting the move, which is planned for the second semester next year.
