The Armed Offenders Squad was called to an address in Hastings on Sunday afternoon after the police received reports of an armed man threatening to kill himself.
Armed police went to the address on Nikau Street just after midday and heard a shot fired.
A police spokesperson says the man was removed from the house around 4pm and has been taken into custody.
Police say there don't appear to have been any injuries.
