Twelve people are lucky to have escaped with minor to moderate injuries following a two van crash on Saturday evening, police say.
The crash happened on State Highway 6 near Canvastown, between Blenheim and Nelson.
Six ambulances, a rescue helicopter, the Fire Service and police attended the incident.
Seven adults and five children were being treated at Nelson Hospital Emergency Department.
