Drink driving checks by police in Auckland City over the past four nights have detected 129 drivers over the limit.
More than 40,000 people have been breath tested since Wednesday night in the city centre and across Avondale, Mt Albert, Blockhouse Bay and Westmere.
Thirteen people were arrested for a variety of offences, including receiving stolen property, unlawfully taking vehicles and driving while disqualified.
Court bailiffs seized 12 vehicles and collected $3000 in outstanding fines.
Police say many offenders were caught out by the number of checkpoints.
One driver, who was over the limit, said a friend had texted him with the route he could use to avoid being tested. He complained that the checkpoint had been subsequently moved.
