Two people have been injured in a South Auckland stabbing.

Police were called to the incident at the intersection of Great South Road and Nelson Street in Papakura just before midday on Friday.

Both people were taken to Middlemore Hospital, Hato Hone St John said.

A police spokesperson said one person was in a critical but stable condition, with injuries which appear to be stab wounds.

A second person sustained moderate injuries and was also stable.

"Enquiries to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing and police are speaking with both parties," police said.

Police said they were not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident, and a stronger police presence would remain in the area.
