Fire and Emergency says crews have contained a vegetation fire at Invercargill's Oreti beach.
About 25 fire fighters and two helicopters fought the blaze, which began at the end of Dunns Road just after 5am.
Two helicopters were called in to assist firefighters as the fire spanned nearly 300 metres of land.
Crews prevented the flames from jumping across a road and threatening homes.
There were no evacuations from nearby properties.
