Two people have died in separate crashes in the North Island on Friday.
The first was a two-vehicle crash on Smales Road in East Tāmaki at 4.20pm.
Police said a person suffered critical injuries and died after being taken to hospital.
The other crash involved a single vehicle on Taneatua Road, Whakatāne and was reported to police at 11.55pm.
The road was closed while the Serious Crash Unit examined the scene but reopened about 4.30am on Saturday.
Police said inquiries into the circumstances of both crashes were ongoing.
