Charges of publishing court proceedings without leave of the Family Court against broadcaster Sean Plunket have been withdrawn.

Plunket - who is the founder of online news site The Platform - had tweeted information surrounding a Family Court case.

Plunket had entered pleas of not guilty to two charges of publishing a report of Family Court proceedings, including identifying information about a person, without leave of the court.

A hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, however it is understood police applied to withdraw the charge which was dealt with by a judge on the papers without being called in court.

It was understood there was difficulty with the charges meeting the definition under the Family Court Act of publishing details of a vulnerable person.

Plunket was briefly banned from Twitter about the same time, although he believed he was kicked off due to a campaign by people who he said had been trolling him.
