Police investigating suspicious fires in Auckland

Police are investigating multiple suspicious fires overnight in Auckland.

Five separate fires were reported in Counties Manukau after 9pm on Tuesday.

At 9.30pm police were called to a fire in Friedlanders Road, Manurewa. No one was inside the property at the time.

After 10pm, police responded to a fire in an unoccupied house in on Freyberg Avenue, Papatoetoe.

A car fire was reported soon afterwards on nearby Clendon Avenue.

A police spokesperson said emergency services were called back to the area about 3.25am when a second vehicle was reported on fire.

No one was injured and a scene guard was put in place, police said.

Around 4.40am, a police patrol came across a bin on fire near Hunters Plaza, Papatoetoe.

A man was taken into custody but no charges have been laid, police said.

Investigations were taking place to determine whether the fires were connected.
