Western Bay of Plenty police crackdown leads to 12 vehicles being impounded

A Western Bay of Plenty police crackdown on boy racers over the weekend saw 12 vehicles impounded and five licence suspensions.

Last Saturday. a team of more than 100 officers hit a local meet in the district.

The operation also saw more than 120 infringement notices issued.

Police said another 15 vehicles were ordered off the road due to unsafe car modifications and four people were charged with excess breath alcohol.

In a statement, Acting Inspector Simon Sinclair said it sent a clear message to those engaging in anti-social and dangerous driving behaviour.

Police would continue to look at footage from the night to identify any other offending, he said.
