Police in Auckland have charged a 21-year-old after a man was seriously injured at a petrol station in the suburb of New Lynn.

Officers were called to the Gull service station on Clark Street at 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Their inquiries led to a house on Stewart Road in Mt Albert where three arrests were made.

Police said a 21-year-old man was due to appear in Waitākere District Court on charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Two other people who were arrested following the incident have been released without charges.

A scene examination has been carried out at the service station.

An inquiry is under way into how the man was hurt, and police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
