Six people have been injured in a crash on Tekapo-Twizel Road, with one in a serious condition.
The two-car crash on State Highway 8, happened at just after 11am on Wednesday near Pukaki.
St John said one person had been airlifted to Christchurch Hospital, and two others were taken by ambulance to Timaru Hospital.
Three other people received treatment at the scene.
The road has reopened.
