A man has been airlifted to an Auckland hospital with gunshot wounds after an incident in Maungatapere, just west of Whangārei.
The police were called to Mangakahia Rd just after 9.30pm last night. No arrests have so far been made in relation to the incident.
Police said officers were working to establish what occurred and would be speaking to the injured man when possible.
