Armed police respond to reports of gunfire in West Auckland

A man has been taken into custody in relation to reports of a gun being fired in Massey, in west Auckland.

Police said they were at the scene after 12.30pm after reports of a confrontation at a Red Hills Drive building.

They said they were making inquiries at an address in Massey, to speak with parties involved and understand what happened.

Police said a man was taken into custody in the Mt Eden area and would be assisting with inquiries.

An RNZ reporter at the scene said more than 20 armed police and a dozen cars converged on Massey Domain.

The police helicopter Eagle was hovering overhead.

Police laid down road spikes across the intersection of Red Hils Road and Don Buck Road. Nearby Birdwood Road was also closed.

Witnesses said they ran when they heard the sounds of gun shots fired.
