Police have confirmed a man has died, after he was found unresponsive in the water at a Nelson beach.
The 43-year-old was found in the water at Tāhunanui Beach on Sunday evening and attempts were made to resuscitate him.
Emergency services responded to the call shortly before 8pm, police said in a statement.
