A search is underway for a fisherman missing at a river mouth north of Timaru.
The man was reported missing in the early hours of Friday morning after he didn't return from a fishing trip at the mouth of the Opihi River on Thursday.
Police said an immediate search did not find him, but the search would resume this morning, focusing on the shoreline around the river.
They asked for anyone in the area who finds any items that could be connected to the search to contact local police.
