A woman is "understandably shaken" after being assaulted on an Auckland walkway.
Police are now looking for witnesses and have released CCTV footage of a male they want to talk to.
Acting detective senior sergeant Martin Friend said police were notified of the serious assault on the Waterview shared walkway in Mount Albert about 6.30pm on Tuesday
Police needed the help of the public to identify a male caught on CCTV in the area, Friend said.
"From our inquiries so far, we believe this male has left the area in the direction of Harbutt Avenue.
"Police are working with the victim, who received moderate injuries and is understandably shaken by what has occurred, and we are provided support to her."
Friend said many people were out and about enjoying the summer weather yesterday, and anyone in the area who had seen anything suspicious should get in contact.
"We understand this will be concerning for the community and police would like to reassure the community we have a dedicated team working hard to locate the offender.
"The community can expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days."
Friend said police were treating the incident very seriously.
Anyone with information - or who could identify the male in the CCTV image - can call police on 105 or online, referencing file number 221213/1298.
Information could also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
