Police have released new information in their search for 22-year-old Breanna Muriwai who went missing at Te Horo Beach in August.

They want to hear from anyone who saw a silver Peugeot station wagon on the night of 27 and 28 August in the Ōtaki and Te Horo areas, or a green Honda in the early hours of Monday 29 August.

Police have tracked her movements and say she was picked up on Friday 26 August by a male friend from the Wellington area, they travelled to Palmerston North where they stayed until the next day.

The last CCTV images of Breanna Muriwai were captured around 11.15am on Saturday at a liquor store in Palmerston North.

That evening, she wanted to return to her home in Paraparaumu and her friend agreed to take her, police said.

They started back late on Saturday, picked up another man, driving south and stopping at about 12.45am at Kimberley Reserve near Levin for a short time.

The next stop was Ōtaki, where Muriwai's friend withdrew money from Muriwai's account, they parked outside a shop in Ōtaki's main street before meeting another person at Hyde Park, police said.

After this, Breanna and the two men she travelled south with went to Te Horo Beach Road.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thompson said this was where things became unclear.

"Breanna is reported to have run off down the beach and has not been seen since," he said in a statement.

Police had more questions than answers after speaking with two men who were with Muriwai that evening and were treating her disappearance as unexplained, Thompson said.

"We are keeping an open mind as to what has happened to Breanna and continue to treat her disappearance as unexplained."

They are also looking for a purple suitcase believed to have come from the Peugeot.
