6:26 pm on 10 November 2022

The search for a kayaker missing on the Firth of Thames has been suspended for the day.

The kayaker, who set out from Kaiaua with the intention of fishing at the mussel farms, was reported missing by his family on Saturday night when he did not return as expected.

His kayak and fishing gear were found on Sunday morning, 5 kilometres east of Ōrere Point.

Today's search involved the police launch Deodar and Coastguard's air patrol.
