The man accused of murdering Dunedin man Sean Buis in a hit-and-run earlier this year can now be identified.

Lance Moore did not seek ongoing name suppression when he appeared in the High Court at Dunedin via audio-visual link this morning.

Moore, who had interim name suppression since being charged last month, denied murdering Buis.

Buis died after being hit by a vehicle on 21 July in the Dunedin suburb of Mornington.

Dunedin police earlier said the investigation found an incident initially occurred at the Unity Park lookout, causing Buis to move towards Eglinton Road where the 28-year-old was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene.

The vehicle involved fled.

In August, Dunedin police recovered a red 2003 Ford Falcon they believed was involved in the crash.

Moore would remain in custody but his lawyer, Kerry Cook, said he would be seeking electronically-monitored bail in a fortnight.

The 35-year-old was scheduled to return to court for a case review hearing in February.
