Pauline Cotter has been confirmed as a Christchurch City Councillor following a judicial recount today, and will retain her role as deputy mayor.

In the official results, Cotter beat rival candidate and former councillor Ali Jones by 16 votes to be the Innes Ward Councillor.

Jones applied for a recount which was accepted by a District Court judge last week.

Jones congratulated her opponent on Facebook.

"Thank you for all of your incredible support and positivity," she wrote.

"I am pleased the special votes have been reviewed and we can be confident they have now been counted correctly."

The recount disallowed 34 special votes, but Cotter managed to hold onto a slim winning margin of eight votes.
