One person has died, and State Highway 1 is closed at Lake Taupō and Waihola, after separate crashes this morning.

Part of SH1 was closed beside Lake Taupō at Motutere after a truck crash at 4.30am on Sunday morning.

Emergency services said no one was seriously injured in the crash but the stretch between Waitapu and Te Heuheu roads could be closed for some time to remove the truck.

Motorists should expect delays and take an alternate route if possible.
