Marlborough District Council is considering whether to bin kerbside rubbish bags - introduce wheelie bins and expand its collection area.

It is also considering a change to rural waste services and whether to replace coin skips with remote transfer stations.

Solid waste manager Alec McNeil said the council wanted people to have their say on the future of the region's rubbish and recycling services.

The proposed new service will see 140-litre rubbish and recycling bins collected on alternate fortnights.

Glass will still be collected separately in the existing recycling crates.

An expansion of the kerbside collection area to include Grovetown, Havelock, Rarangi, Rai Valley, Renwick, Seddon, Spring Creek, Tuamarina, Wairau Valley and Ward is also proposed.

Residents can find out whether their property is included in the proposed expanded kerbside collection service by looking at the maps on Council's website.

It is proposing to replace the current coin skips in rural areas with remote transfer stations which will include ten 1100-litre wheelie bins for recycling excluding glass, ten 1100-litre wheelie bins for refuse and a skip for colour-sorted glass.

The provisional locations include replacing the existing recycling bins in Awatere Valley and Ward, along with bins in Duncan Bay, Okiwi Bay, Ohingaroa Quarry, Portage, Port Underwood, Rapaura, The Grove, Titirangi, Waihopai and Waitaria Bay.

The council is holding eight sessions across the region to get feedback from the community and people are able to make submissions on the proposal on the council's website until 30 November.
