A car that crashed in Napier last night, killing one of the occupants, had nine people in it.
Police were called to Shakespeare Road just before midnight to the crash and have now confirmed nine people were in the car, one of whom died at the scene.
One was uninjured and seven were taken to hospital. Two people remain in a critical condition, the other five are stable and remain in hospital.
The serious crash unit is investigating and part of Shakespeare Road is closed in the meantime.
