Holidaymakers heading home from Northland today face delays after a single-vehicle crash blocked SH1.
In a statement, police said a serious single-vehicle crash between Warkworth and Puhoi southbound had blocked State Highway 1 earlier this afternoon, causing a traffic backlog of several kilometres.
Police were called to the scene at 12.20pm where one person sustained serious injuries in the crash, a spokesperson said.
Police said stop/go traffic management was in place and expected to remain for some time.
In an update at 2.55pm, Waka Kotahi tweeted that the highway had reopened but warned motorists to expect delays travelling in both the northbound and southbound lanes.
Motorists were advised to detour via State Highway 16.
Emergency services are at the scene, recovering the vehicle.
