Police say a person has been charged with arson in relation to rural fires that broke out in South Wairarapa yesterday.

The fires damaged homes and barns on two properties in Wards Line, Morison Bush.

The person will appear in the Masterton District Court tomorrow on five charges of arson - two of which say the fires endangered life - one of attempted arson, and one of intentional damage to property.

Police thanked the community for their help and said they were not seeking anyone else.

They still wanted to hear from anyone who was in the area of Wards Line between 2am and 4am on Tuesday.
