Christchurch police have released a video after an attempted kidnapping of a woman in the suburb of Fendalton.

The woman was jogging on Kotare Street about 6.20am on Monday when the incident occurred.

Officers hope the footage will help identify and locate a suspect.

The man is described as being of medium build, about 176cm-179cm tall with short black hair and a short beard.

He is believed to be between 25 and 33 years old and was wearing a dark-coloured vest (black or grey) and dark-coloured track pants, with one trouser leg rolled up toward the knee.

Detective denior sergeant Damon Wells said police would like to speak with anyone who recognised the man, or anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident.

Anyone with any information can call police on 105, quoting file number 221003/5623 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
