Police have launched a homicide investigation after a body was found at the scene of a house fire in the South Auckland suburb of Manurewa last week.

Police found the body inside the house at Nina Place the morning after the fire on 17 September night.

The death was initially treated as unexplained, but police today said they would be launching a homicide investigation.

Police also confirmed it was the body of a woman and the family of the victim have been granted an interim non-publication order by the coroner.

Victim Support would be supporting the family throughout the investigation, police said.
