Two men arrested after Tauranga firearms incident

Police have arrested two men this afternoon following a firearms incident in Welcome Bay in Tauranga.

In a statement, a police spokesperson said they received a call to a residential address in Welcome Bay at about 2.50pm this afternoon.

Police subsequently arrested two men after a firearm was allegedly presented and threats were made during an incident.

The alleged offender fled the scene in a vehicle before it was abandoned nearby, shortly after Police located the car found the two occupants in the vicinity of the vehicle.

The two men have been arrested and charges were being considered, police said.

The firearms incident was believed to be linked to an earlier altercation during which a man sustained a minor wrist injury and a firearm was allegedly discharged, police said.

Police are currently not seeking anyone else in relation to these matters.
