Person requires surgery after possible shooting in Northland

Police are investigating a possible shooting in which a person has suffered serious injuries.

A spokesperson said a person arrived at Bay of Islands Hospital yesterday with an apparent firearms-related injury.

The person who suffered a leg injury was transferred to Whangārei Hospital for surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident was reported to police just after 10pm and inquiries into the incident are continuing, police said in a statement.

Meanwhile, reports of gunshots being heard in Dunedin this morning turned out to be a man working on his house truck.

However, police are investigating after reports of gunshots in New Brighton in Christchurch yesterday.

A man with non-life-threatening injuries was found by police on arrival.
