A woman who died in a crash near Rotorua yesterday was an off-duty police officer.

It is believed the vehicle Shannon Rastrick, 30, was driving, hit a tree on State Highway 5 at Tapapa.
Rastrick was a constable in Tokoroa and had been working in the Taupō area since graduating in 2018.
Taupō Area Commander Inspector Phil Edwards said support was being provided to her family and colleagues.
In a separate incident, a person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Waikato Expressway early this morning.
Police said they were called to the scene at Hampton Downs at about 1.25am.
There have also been several crashes today resulting in people being seriously injured.
Just after 1pm police were called to a two vehicle crash involving a motorbike on State Highway 2 at Karangahake in Waikato. One person is seriously injured and the road is blocked and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
Elsewhere, a seriously injured person was taken to hospital after a single-car crash on Te Matai Road south of Te Puke at about 4.30am today.
And one person was left with serious injuries after a single vehicle crashed into a property in Don Street, Oamaru, shortly after midnight.
