Cordons have been lifted in Mount Maunganui following the discovery of a suspicious item on Waimarie Street.

Totara Street and Hewletts Road were also cordoned off while police assessed the situation.
In their latest update, police said they would maintain a presence in the area and also around the port.
People were being asked to follow the directions of emergency services.
