One person has been killed in a car crash in Riverhead, north of Auckland.

Police said only one car was involved, and the car crashed into a tree at the intersection of Alice Street and the Coatesville-Riverhead Highway.
Emergency services were called at about 10.15am.
Traffic cordons are in place, and police are investigating what happened.
