The bolstered police presence in the town comes after a gang member assaulted a man on the main street in daylight last week.

On Wednesday police located 1.7kg cannabis when executing a search warrant.

Far North area commander Inspector Justin Rogers said during 60 vehicle stops, police arrested a 45-year-old-man after a pistol and methamphetamine were found in his car.

Rogers said the arrest was linked to an ongoing investigation.

Police would not tolerate any antisocial gang behaviour, he said.
