Covid-19 update: 6635 new community cases, six deaths reported in NZ today

There have been six further deaths and another 6635 community cases of Covid-19 reported in New Zealand today.

The seven-day rolling average of community case numbers is 7972, up from 7548 last Saturday.

In today's statement, the Ministry of Health said there were 400 people in hospital - down slightly from 401 yesterday, with 12 in ICU.

The total number of deaths of people with Covid-19 is now 1045.

The six new deaths reported today included one person in their 60s, two in their 70s, two in their 80s and one over 90. Two were women and four were men. Two were from the Auckland region and one each from Northland, Taranaki, Canterbury and the Southern region.

Today's community cases were recorded in the Northland (194), Auckland (2222), Waikato (527), Bay of Plenty (205), Lakes (121), Hawke's Bay (255), MidCentral (190), Whanganui (94), Taranaki (172), Tairāwhiti (57), Wairarapa (67), Capital and Coast (466), Hutt Valley (177), Nelson Marlborough (206), Canterbury (985), South Canterbury (106), Southern (519), West Coast (67) DHBs.

There were also 85 new imported cases.

There were 7800 new community cases of Covid-19 and another 17 deaths reported yesterday.

The Ministry said there were currently 56,335 active cases and there has now been a total of 1,089,626 cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand.
