Wellington's Tawa College locked down, one person injured after 'incident'

One person is injured and Tawa College spent part of Tuesday afternoon in lockdown following what police are calling an 'incident'.

Police said they received a report of an assault about 2.15pm.

One person was transported to hospital with serious injuries and the other person involved was taken into custody.

"Police believe this is an isolated incident and poses no threat to the wider community.

"Contrary to other reports, this was not believed to be gang related.

"Police are making initial enquiries to establish what has happened and a scene examination is currently underway."

Tawa College principal Andrew Savage said the Ministry of Education had been on site today would be supporting the school for as long as needed.

He said the safety and wellbeing of students and staff was his immediate focus.
