Daniel John Luff, who is now 37, was sentenced for the murder of Detective Constable Duncan Taylor in 2002 and the attempted murder of another officer.

The officers had followed Luff to his estranged girlfriend's home where he opened fire with a shotgun.

The Parole Board is satisfied he is now at low risk of reoffending, given his extensive rehabilitation and release plan.

Luff is banned from possessing a firearm or obtaining a firearm's licence, and will have electronic monitoring on his release on 25 May.
