Two charged with manslaughter after 18-year-old pedestrian's death

Two 18-year-olds have been charged with manslaughter after a pedestrian died following an incident in Auckland Sunday morning.

Unexplained death in Taita, Lower Hutt early on Sunday 26th January 2020.  A Police cordon and crime scene invetsigation tent were in place Monday 27th January 2020.

The incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian occurred near the intersection of Customs Street East and Commerce Street at 2.35am Sunday.

The pedestrian sustained critical injuries and died in Auckland City Hospital on Wednesday.

He was identified by police earlier today, but his name has now been suppressed by the court.

"Our thoughts continue to be with the victim's family at this extremely difficult time," police said in a statement.

A man and woman, both 18, have been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death.

The woman has also been charged with three counts of assault.

Both were due to appear in the Auckland District Court today.

While police have laid charges over this matter, they would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.

Police would particularly appeal to anyone with video or dashcam footage to come forward and contact Police on 105 quoting the file number 220424/0296.
