Anzac weekend road toll surpasses Easter weekend toll

Seven people have so far died on New Zealand's roads this Anzac weekend, including four teenagers who were killed in a crash yesterday afternoon.

The Anzac weekend road toll is steadily rising, with four teens killed yesterday and three people killed in crashes today.

The teenagers were killed when two vehicles collided on Queen's Drive, Invercargill, just before 4pm.

Three were 16 years old and one was 17 years old. Three were from Bluff.

One person was killed in another fatal accident on SH57 in Levin this morning.

The crash was reported to police just before 6.30am.

Police said two other victims were transported to hospital, one in critical condition.

Another person died following a crash involving a vehicle and motorcycle in Whangārei this morning. They died at the scene.

A motorcyclist died after crashing in Whakatane, Bay of Plenty around 5.30pm.

Four people died on New Zealand's roads over the Easter holiday period, down on last year's toll of nine.
