Some brands of powdered infant formula, only available online to New Zealanders, are being recalled due to possible cronobacter and salmonella contamination.

Selected lots of Similac, Alimentum and EleCare have been recalled in the United States after four illnesses reported to be linked to the formula.
Cronobacter and salmonella poisoning can be serious in infants.
While the brands are not available on supermarket shelves in New Zealand, the Ministry for Primary Industries said some local consumers might have purchased the product online.
As a precaution, MPI is raising awareness on the US recall.
The affected products are for Similac, Alimentum, or EleCare powdered infant formulas if:
- the first two digits of the code are 22 through 37; and
- the code on the container contains K8, SH or Z2; and
- the expiration date is 4-1-2022 (APR 2022) or later
The products are manufactured by global healthcare company Abbott Nutrition's facility in Sturgis, Michigan.
