Four people have been evacuated from a motor launch that is on fire off Wellington's South Coast.

Maritime police say a fishing boat crew managed to get the four adults off the 12-metre launch and they are now being transferred to the police launch, the Lady Elizabeth.
A police spokesperson said the boat was engulfed in flames and would burn to the waterline.
Fire and Emergency said one fire engine had been sent to the scene but it was unlikely that firefighters would go out to the burning boat.
