A man in his 70s has died after a water-related incident at a beach in Waipu, Northland.

Police said emergency services were called shortly before 4.30pm to Langs Beach after the man was found unresponsive in the water.
He was unable to be resuscitated despite extensive efforts, police said.
They are making inquires in relation to the death on behalf of the coroner, who will release their findings in due course.
