One case is in the Kaitāia area and public health staff are trying to establish a possible link to previous cases.

The other case was already in Whangārei, as a close contact to another known case. The cases will be included in today's national tally.

Anyone with cold or flu symptoms, or who has been in contact with a recent case should be tested.

A testing clinic at the Old Warehouse Building, at 11 Matthews Avenue, in Kaitāia will be open until 2pm today.

The prime minister and director-general of health have called a media conference for 11am this morning to give an update on the Covid-19 response.
