A fire on a hill in Ahipara burnt through 5 hectares of vegetation before it was contained overnight.

People from six properties below the fire had to be evacuated.
Two helicopters and ground crews were dousing smouldering scrub and small flare-ups.
The cause of the fire was being investigated.
