There are 63 firefighters working to control a fire burning near Waiharahara in the Far North.

The blaze began 31 days ago and was under control until a break out on Saturday.

The fire has grown after the break out and now covers 2530 hectares.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said there may be more flare ups this afternoon due to hot windy weather, and it had resources available in case the situation deteriorated.

Three properties were evacuated on Saturday and those households have not been able to fully return yet.
